A Single Story Can Change The World!
Every OOKP journey is extraordinary. Each story is filled with courage, resilience,, determination and hope. By sharing yours, you could change someone else’s life.
Our group is inviting patients, family members, and carers to contribute their personal experiences with OOKP. Whether you’re just beginning the journey, recovering from surgery, or supporting a loved one, your story matters; and we’d love to help you tell it.
There's two powerful reasons why we’re asking you to share:
To support others going through this unique and sometimes overwhelming process. Reading about someone else who’s experienced the same challenges – and come through it – can make all the difference.
To create a lasting legacy. We aim to collect and collate these stories into a special publication: a book that can offer insight, inspiration, and education. It'll be shared with future patients, support networks, and medical students and psychologists, who're just beginning to learn about OOKP.
By adding your voice to this collection, you help us build a stronger, more understanding community around one of the world’s rarest eye procedures.
Telling your story isn’t just about helping others. Many people find the process deeply cathartic. It’s a chance to reflect on what you’ve been through; to find meaning in the hard moments, and pride in how far you’ve come.
Some people write to release emotion, others to honour their supporters, and some simply to make sense of it all. Whatever your reason, there’s no right or wrong way to tell your story – and we’ll guide you gently through it.
We welcome any OOKP-related experiences – long or short, detailed or simple. You might want to write about:
Your diagnosis and the decision to pursue OOKP
Preparing for surgery and your time in hospital
Physical or emotional recovery
Life changes and adaptations
What helped you most – or what didn’t
Family perspectives or caregiver insights
Hopes for the future or reflections on the past
Whether it’s a few paragraphs or a full chapter, your contribution will be treated with care, respect, and gratitude.
Stories will be:
Featured anonymously or with your name, as you prefer
Published in our newsletter and on our website (with your permission) to support new members
Considered for inclusion in our upcoming OOKP Stories Book; a powerful, compassionate collection that will be shared with patients, professionals, and teaching hospitals
Promoted in our awareness and fundraising campaigns, with your consent
Contributors selected for the book will have the chance to be named in print; a lasting legacy for future generations to read and learn from.
You can submit your story in your own words, or we can help you write it. If writing isn’t your strength, no problem – we’re happy to arrange a friendly phone call or email conversation and help shape your story together.
