ASK US ANYTHING PEER SUPPORT
No Question Is Too Trivial
No Question Is Too Trivial
Our "Ask Us Anything" service is at the heart of what the OOKP Support Service was created to do.
We're a patient-founded, volunteer-led support group, created by people who understand first-hand, the emotional, practical, and life-changing impact of OOKP surgery. Every person involved in delivering this service, gives their time freely, driven by compassion, lived experience, and a shared belief that people affected by OOKP deserve meaningful, relevant support.
This service exists because, while clinical teams can answer medical questions, many people living with OOKP and their families, have emotional, practical, and day-to-day questions that only someone with lived experience can truly understand.
Ask Us Anything is a safe, confidential way to:
Ask questions before or after OOKP surgery
Talk through emotional concerns and anxieties
Learn from others who've been through similar experiences
Get peer-based guidance which complements clinical care
Whether you're:
Considering OOKP
Waiting for surgery
Living with OOKP
Supporting a loved one
Or working professionally with OOKP patients
You're welcome to contact us.
Please understand, there's no such thing as a wrong question and no expectations will be placed on you. We believe, if you have a question, then others will have the same or similar questions. Therefore, by answering your question and placing these answers on our website; in our FAQ section; it also helps others.
It's only knowledge and experience which turns questions into answers. Our members have the knowledge and experience. They're also willing to pass this information freely to you, to prevent you suffering excessive stress, to ensure your OOKP journey runs as smooth as possible
People commonly contact us about:
Emotional concerns before surgery
Coping with fear, uncertainty, or isolation
Adjusting after surgery
Confidence around appearance and self-image
Returning to work or education
Daily living with OOKP
Accessible technology and independence skills
Supporting a family member with OOKP
What we can say with confidence is, if you’re unsure whether your question is “appropriate” — IT IS.
Once you contact us, we can connect you with someone who has lived experience of OOKP, either as a patient, family member, friend or carer. We believe, the more people who understand how OOKP affects lives, the more people will be able to provide assistance, in whatever format is most appropriate.
Support can be provided through:
Telephone (by arrangement)
WhatsApp messaging, or video call (by arrangement)
Ongoing peer contact if helpful
Members, once they've discussed their issue with our allocation officers, may also choose to take part in:
Peer discussion groups
A dedicated WhatsApp group
Community conversations where members support each other
These spaces allow members to ask questions and receive answers from others who genuinely understand the OOKP journey without it being too formal. For example, it may be a member wanting advice on types of sun shades available. On community group services, they can receive a number of opinions, allowing them to make choices appropriate to their needs and circumstances..
IMPORTANT NOTE
Please understand, this is not medical advice, but shared experience, understanding, and practical insight.

Therefore, if you have a topic or subject you wish us to cover, which is not included within this website, please give details in an email and we will be only too happy to research this further and offer appropriate solutions.
It is only by communication, can we provide the knowledge necessary for members to live the life they desire. Nothing is unachieveable, providing we have the information, capacity and desire to succeed, which with our help, can be obtained from those who are travelling the OOKP journey.
"Please join us in making this work."
