Leaving a gift in your Will — known as a legacy donation — is one of the most powerful and generous ways you can support the work of the OOKP Patient & Carer Support Group.
Your legacy could change lives by ensuring that people facing one of the world’s rarest eye surgeries receive the emotional, practical, and community-based support they so urgently need — not just now, but for generations to come.
A legacy gift isn’t just a donation. It’s a lasting statement of your values, a final act of kindness that extends beyond your lifetime.
At present, OOKP (Osteo-Odonto-Keratoprosthesis) patients face an incredibly rare and isolating medical journey — one that most people, even within the healthcare system, have never heard of.
By remembering our group in your Will, you can help us to:
Provide lifeline support to patients facing surgery or recovery
Offer peer mentoring from others who’ve walked this path
Run wellbeing services to support mental and emotional health
Deliver practical guidance for families and carers
Create trusted online resources accessible anywhere in the UK
Provide volunteer training to strengthen our national peer network
Build a community where no patient ever feels alone
Your gift could fund our long-term vision: a professionally supported, volunteer-driven organisation offering ongoing care, compassion, and clarity for every person affected by OOKP.
No matter the size, your gift will create a ripple effect of hope.
Leaving a gift in your Will is easier than you might think — and it can be done when you first write your Will, or added later with a simple update.
Here’s how:
1. Choose the Type of Gift
There are several ways to leave a legacy:
A residuary gift – a percentage of what’s left of your estate after other gifts are made. This is a popular option as it keeps pace with inflation.
A pecuniary gift – a fixed sum of money (e.g., £500 or £5,000).
A specific gift – such as an item of property, shares, or valuable belongings.
You can speak to a solicitor or Will-writing service to decide what feels right for you and your family.
2. Include Our Charity in Your Will
To include our group in your Will, your solicitor will need our full name and charity number. Once we’re formally registered, the wording might look like this:
“I give to OOKP Patient & Carer Support Group, registered charity number [to be confirmed], [X]% of my residuary estate / the sum of £[X] / [item description], to be used for its general charitable purposes.”
If you’ve already written your Will, you can add a gift by asking your solicitor to help you make a small change, known as a codicil.
Let Us Know (If You’re Comfortable)
You’re under no obligation to tell us about your gift — but if you choose to, we’d love the opportunity to thank you personally and show you how your support will make a real difference.
You’ll also have the option to receive updates, stories, or be listed (if you wish) as a legacy supporter.
Right now, our group is entirely volunteer-run. Every email, every meeting, every guide or friendly message comes from people giving their time out of love and lived experience.
But our dream is to grow into a fully registered, funded charity, able to offer national services, hire staff, and ensure that every single person facing OOKP has someone to turn to.
By leaving a gift in your Will, you’ll be planting the seeds of that future. You’ll ensure that:
No OOKP patient feels alone or unsupported
Families get guidance they can trust
Carers receive help, not just responsibility
Mental health is nurtured, not neglected
Information is easy to find, not frightening or confusing
Your legacy will help us be there when it matters most — even after you’re gone.
