At the heart of our OOKP support group, are the people who give their time, energy and kindness to help others. Our volunteers make a huge difference; not only by supporting individuals, but by building a national community, where no one feels alone. Whether you're an OOKP patient, a family member, a medical professional, or simply someone who wants to help, we welcome you.
Volunteering with us isn’t just about giving — it’s about connecting, growing, and finding purpose in something truly meaningful.
You don’t need any special qualifications or a huge amount of spare time. All you need is a desire to help, and we’ll guide you the rest of the way.
Many people affected by OOKP, feel isolated, uncertain, or overwhelmed — especially when facing complex surgery or adjusting to life afterwards. Volunteers offer something powerful: shared experience, a listening ear, and a sense of hope.
Through your support, we can run peer-to-peer groups, answer emails from worried families, write helpful newsletters, and organise national support services. Volunteers help us do all of this — and more.
And it’s not just about helping others. Volunteering can be personally rewarding too. You’ll gain confidence, develop new skills, and become part of a passionate, supportive team.
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and all parts of the country. Some people help with community projects, others offer one-to-one support. Some give a few hours a month from home; others help regularly or come up with new ideas to grow the group.
You might want to chat with patients over the phone, help us design a newsletter, write blogs, share your own story, support fundraising campaigns, promote our services in your town, or help us with admin and emails. If you enjoy writing, creating, listening, organising or just offering kind encouragement — there's a place for you here.
Whatever your strengths, we’ll help you find a role where you can feel confident and valued.
If you’re interested in volunteering, just get in touch with us by email or through our "Contact Us" page. We’ll have a friendly chat about what you'd like to do, and how often you’d like to help — no pressure, no fuss. You decide how much time you can offer. It could be an hour a month or a little more, depending on what suits you.
We offer gentle onboarding, clear guidance, and regular contact to help you feel supported. Most of our roles can be done from home, and many are informal and flexible.
We’ll also connect you with other volunteers, so you’re never doing it alone.
"After my OOKP procedure, I felt isolated. Volunteering gave me purpose again — and reminded me how powerful it is to share an experience."
— Martin, OOKP Patient & Volunteer
"I help with admin emails and newsletter updates from home. It's small, but I know I’m helping someone else feel less alone."
— Amina, Admin Volunteer
By volunteering, you’re not just helping people — you’re helping build something. A safe space, a supportive network, and a future where everyone affected by OOKP has someone to turn to.
Your voice matters. Your story matters. Your time matters.
If you’re ready to be part of something special, we’d love to hear from you.
